Think of St. Joseph – a humble worker, faithfully fulfilling his role as protector and provider of Mary and Jesus, generously giving of himself for his family and for others.
St. Joseph serves as a powerful role model not just for fathers and husbands, but for all of us. And not because of any “words of wisdom” he shared – no words of Joseph were ever recorded in the Bible – but by his actions.
As we celebrate the fest of St. Joseph on March 19, one can see the virtues of St. Joseph reflected in the staff, volunteers and Residents of our home. It’s in the care they show in even the smallest tasks, from cleaning the floors to helping with meal preparation; it’s in the attentive care given to each individual, listening carefully to their feelings and concerns; and in how they give generously of themselves to help others, whether in assisting a person to the chapel for Mass or making sure they have an opportunity to enjoy a shamrock shake at a St. Patrick’s Day party.
As we celebrate the feast of St. Joseph, there can be no better tribute to this silent saint than following his example and allowing actions to speak louder than words.
