Every year National Nursing Home Week is celebrated countrywide during the 2nd week of May. Our theme this year included parties, musical events, and outings. We ran with the title “It’s a Fiesta! A Week Full of Fun!” all the way to fun town.
Our ears were blessed with some fantastic entertainment, as always. We were serenaded by the melodies of “One Voice” and “Miriam”, and then listened to the piano / violin / cello sounds of Warp Trio. Music is truly the cure for the soul!
Thanks to a generous benefactor, we were able to take a bus load of excited Residents and Sisters to the Krohn Conservatory for the annual Butterfly Show. We were all amazed at the beauty and grace of those small, elegant creatures. Butterflies landed on all in attendance in some way, whether it was our head, shoulder, or lap. Residents Mary Moorhead and Mary Bohl must have eaten something sweet because they seemed to be the most attractive to the butterflies!
Mother Nature blessed us with gorgeous weather all week and to celebrate we had our planned picnic outside Thursday! Volunteers were grilling burgers and dogs, staff members were serving salads and watermelon, our guitarist was playing, and above all everyone was enjoying the company of each other: our Residents and Staff members included. Everyone was together and smiling on the front porch. Some of us even got a little sunburnt!
