Together Always
By Sarah Steffen
For 66 years Vince and Judy Lasita have been inseparable. Married on June 26, 1954, they recently celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary. This was the first year they celebrated their love apart because of the Coronavirus. Judy is a Resident of our Home while Vince still lives at home. “It is a bit cliché after all these years, but absence really does make the heart grow stronger,” explains Vince.
This experience has been very difficult on many families, for Vince and Judy this has been the longest time apart from each other throughout their entire marriage. “We know the Lasita family well, they have been a part of our Little Sisters family for many years through family members living in our home. Vince would come to visit and spend time with Judy every day and one day he plans to move here himself. We are so grateful for the sacrifices of family members as we have continued to remain COVID-free in our building,” exclaims Jenny, the building Administrator.
Both Vince and Judy are Cincinnati natives, Vince from the Clifton area and Judy from Price Hill. They met through a mutual friend and have been together ever since. Dating while Vince was in the Army and on his return they were engaged. They married at Holy Family Church and had three wonderful children. They love to travel and were lucky to travel all over the United States as Vince worked his way up to a National Sales Manager.
“A big part of our family is food! We all have a great love for food, old family recipes, cooking together, and just taking the time to enjoy each other as a family,” says Anne, Judy and Vince’s daughter. They now have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren that join in on the family fun.
The Coronavirus has been a large wrench in the plans of many. Frustrations, sadness, and exhaustion are a few words that might explain many of our feelings during this time. As a Home we are so grateful to remain safe from the virus but we cannot ignore our struggles as individuals. For Vince and Judy this is not an easy time, but we have come together here at St. Paul’s Home to try our best to work through this time together. We hope and continue to pray that people like Vince and Judy will one day soon be able to embrace each other as they did before!
