Fuel Up, Stock Up
By Sarah Steffen
As many of you know our Home has been on a “lockdown” since mid-March in order to control the spread of the Coronavirus at our Home. This means that we have not had visitors in our building since then and only certain essential workers have been able to enter the building. This is all to keep Residents safe from COVID-19 as this virus does affect the elderly population more than any other generation. With this precaution, the Residents have had to make sacrifices. One of the biggest sacrifices has been simple shopping. But we came up with a temporary solution!
Our snack cart, the “Fuel Up, Stock Up Cart” has been a well-deserved treat for Residents and staff during this time. In the past, we had a small store with some necessities and treats for Residents but that store has not been open. We began to take the snacks and necessities to them! The Fuel Up, Stock Up cart has been stocked with some basic necessities like tissues, paper towels, and toilet paper as well as goodies to satisfy hungry bellies.
“We are so grateful to have the snack cart. It is a great treat every week to be able to get some things that I cannot go out and get right now and we so appreciate those that help make it happen!” Mary Ann is a Resident in one of our independent apartments. Like her, many of our Residents that could go out shopping have been staying in to help us keep the virus out of our building. The snack cart has become a weekly favorite for the entire building!
We have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who cannot come into our building to help but have been dropping off items to help stock our cart. Family members of Residents have also contributed to helping show appreciation to the staff, Sisters, and residents for the sacrifices we are making to keep us COVID FREE!
If you are interested in helping us continue our snack cart you can drop items off anytime! We ask that all items are individually wrapped (think cracker packs, small bags of chips, etc.) and we are accepting a variety of treats. Some of the favorites include chips, peanuts, candy, chocolate, soda pop cans, muffins, cereal, toilet paper, paper towels….ok so maybe we don’t have favorites. We love everything! We are living through this situation in unique ways and we are grateful to you all for your support.
