This year’s infamous tax day was not a day of fear and anxiety for the Residents at the Little Sisters of the Poor. Instead, we all danced the night away with the students from Roger Bacon High School at our annual prom.
Every year we welcome Roger Bacon High School students into our Home to put on a prom for the Residents. Each year brings a little something different to the table with decorations, snacks, and good music. The prom brings back memories of the days when the boys were too afraid to ask the girls to dance, but in our case everyone was all smiles and laughter and chatter.
After a couple of group dances, one of our Residents sang a sweet vocal serenade. Sam loves to sing and shared his talent with everyone through a Frank Sinatra classic. Throughout the night, the fun continued with more dancing and conversing. As the night came to a close, the students decided to dance one last time to the popular but more modern Cupid Shuffle. The Cupid Shuffle is a modern line dance that many people enjoy today at weddings and school dances. Because of the modernism of the song, the students showed great enthusiasm while teaching the popular line dance to the Residents.
At the end, we voted on the King and Queen of the 2013 Roger Bacon Little Sisters Prom. The landslide victor for king turned out to be our vocal heroin, Sam, and the beautiful Therese was crowned queen!
Overall this year’s prom was exciting and exhilarating. We all very much enjoyed the event and very much appreciate Alicia and the students from Roger Bacon High School. We had a blast and we are so grateful! After all the fun this year, we cannot wait for Prom 2014!
