Happy Flag Day! Every year on Flag Day, we hold a flag raising ceremony. We sing songs, raise the flag, say a prayer, and enjoy the early morning on the patio. This year was no exception. We had a great crowd on the patio with beautiful sunshine that lit the way to the flag pole. The Residents were all dressed in their best patriotic garb and almost all our veterans were able to make it. Our vets came with their service hats, jackets, and even one came in uniform! We all couldn’t believe it still fit Leland after all these years.
We had melodious flute playing and wonderful brass filling the air. Teresa Hay, from activities and Emma Thomas, a young volunteer, played America the Beautiful, To the Colors, The Star Spangled Banner, and God Bless America as we all sang along. Veterans L’ Jean Cummins (Coast Guard) and Leland Schneider (Army), with help from Resident Jerry Metz, raised the flag for us. We prayed for our country, leaders, veterans, and those currently serving our country
in the military.
We thank God for our freedom and abundant blessings this day and every day.
