For the past few years, we have been blessed to have students from Michigan State University come for a week-long visit. These students give up going on Spring Break vacation to places like Florida or Mexico and spend their week in service to our Residents.
This year, five students and one adult leader arrived in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, March 3. They got all settled in, met with the Sisters and the Residents.
The following day, they got straight to work on our canned goods. They proceeded to do this every morning after until they left! We had received a large donation of canned goods around the holidays last year and we still haven’t sorted through them all! The students were a big help and put a huge dent in the project of sorting, categorizing and shelving.
Every day at the noon and at supper, the students helped serve the meal and then got to sit, mingle, meet, and get to know the Residents on their assigned floor. Of course, the students made some very strong bonds with their Residents. In the afternoons, they would work with the Activities Department to play games like Wii Bowling, Jumbo Poker, and other card games, as well as visiting and socializing in the Coffee Shop. Also, the week they were here was when we had our Resident Retreat with Retreat coordinator Archabbot Lambert Reilly.
We did give them students a day off to see the beautiful city of Cincinnati, too. They went shopping, visited the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, and were extremely lucky to score tickets to see the Cincinnati Pops concert.
They stayed until the evening of March 9 and we were so happy to have them here and wish them all the best. Hopefully we will see their smiling faces again!
